Nature on the "Balance Sheet": Process and Roadmap
To halt and reverse nature loss and strengthen economic and ecosystem resilience, a fundamental transformation of the economic system is urgently required.
One effective lever is to account for the full value of natural capital and incorporate it into our economic decision-making.
To accelerate this transformation, curating movements in each enablers’ actions towards a shared goal of valuing natural capital in a standardized manner and integrating it at all levels of economic decision making is critical.
Furthermore, the voices of Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Global South must be reflected in the process. This panel discussion will discuss Nature on the Balance Sheet Initiative and its roadmaps.

Much ado about something! Exploring steel standards
Worldsteel’s mapping of over 50 methodologies demonstrates the complex landscape of GHG emissions methodologies for steel, showing how difficult it is to compare published carbon footprints. Methodology choices and the disparity between different sources of generic upstream GHG emission factors contribute to this debate.
Join us to find out why there are so many methodologies and standards out there for steel, especially compared to other materials and whether we can ever get to the point where we have only one methodology or standard. We will also discuss the role of standards in decarbonising the industry, the impact of a lack of a common source of generic upstream data and how this affects the comparability of the carbon footprints that we’re seeing – is it possible to envisage a world where we can rely on common sources of data?

Environmental data for climate impact: Turning standards into action
Climate action is only as strong as the data behind it. Reliable, comparable environmental data is essential to track progress, guide investment and build trust in global efforts – yet gaps in access, quality and interoperability still limit impact. This interactive workshop explores how International Standards can bridge those divides and make environmental data more effective for climate policy and decision-making. Through breakout discussions, participants will tackle key challenges – from data accessibility and equity to interoperability, trust and climate finance – and explore how stronger data systems can power real, lasting impact for the climate.
- Adam Stingemore (moderator), Chief Development Officer, Standards Australia
- Jamal Waqar, Head of Research, Experience, Data and Analytics, Standards Australia
